Environment is an important factor that can decide the success or failure of your hydroponic farming. The environment factor includes precipitation, humidity, light, temperature, elevation, and wind.
Each area has different precipitation depending on its geographic position and elevation. Other than the amount of precipitation, it’s also important to study the distribution pattern of the precipitation all year. You can look up your national weather report about this prediction then you can adjust your production pattern based on the ecosystem condition.
Humidity is the percentage of water in the air at certain temperature. Pay attention to the condition of Relative Humidity (RH) for your hydroponic success. The optimal RH for this is 70%. Higher than 70%, evapotranspiration and root absorption power are not enough. Lower than 70%, evapotranspiration is too fast and the amount of water in the soil can’t keep up, causing wilting on your plants.
The sunlight energy is bound into chemical energy during photosynthesis, producing carbohydrate. Carbohydrate is the main ingredient in protein forming and protein is used to form cells, tissues, and organs.
The energy received by plants in the morning and in the evening isn’t the same. In the morning, not a lot of light has been received by plants so the photosynthesis process is not yet optimum while in the evening, the sunlight has started to dim and the intensity is lower so the photosynthesis activity is diminishing.
In higher temperature, chemical reactions happen faster so the physiology process inside the plants is quite scrambled. In lowland, the temperature is usually quite high so vegetables mature faster. In highland with lower temperature, chemical reactions happen slower thus giving plants enough time to form cells, tissues, and organs, giving way to high productivity with good quality.
Air that is too hot needs to be let out of the serra with the help of wind. Air will exit through the side of hole on top of the serra. If wind enters the serra, the humidity that is too high inside can be made lower.
